As part of our World War One topic, Year 6 took part in an art workshop at Shipley Art Gallery last week.

Elizabeth told us all about trench art: during the war soldiers used to decorate whatever they could find, such as used shells or clay from the trenches. She showed us examples of their work which were usually decorated with themes from nature, symbols of the soldiers home countries (roses, thistles, etc), dates, place names and sometimes images from battle (cannons, etc).

We then made our own tiles and ‘pinch pots’ from clay and decorated them with WWI inspired designs.
