This afternoon, Year 3 enjoyed a Stone Age workshop. We began by thinking about how long ago the Stone Age was. We unravelled an incredibly long piece of string which had historical periods pegged onto it. Every centimetre was 10 years so by the time we got back to the Stone Age 15000 years ago the string stretched around our entire classroom! We were very surprised to see how close events such as WW1 and WW2 were to our end of the string and how very far away the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age.
We learnt about how weather and settlements changed over time and found out more about how people lived in the Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic periods of the Stone Age.
We painted cave paintings using our fingers and powder paints, just like the real cavemen used to! We were very lucky to be able to handle and look closely at replica artefacts of Stone Age flint knives, arrowheads and pottery.
