Today in computing we found out what algorithms were and explored the importance of giving clear and precise instructions when programming. We visited our outdoor classroom and set up a ‘Moon’ and an ‘Earth’ using two hoops. We imagined that we were astronauts flying our spaceships from Earth to the Moon. In groups, we wrote precise instructions for how to get there using directional language and specifying how many steps should be taken when moving. We talked about quarter and half turns in clockwise and anti-clockwise directions. It was quite difficult at first but by the end of the lesson, some of us were very good at programming our ‘spaceships’.
