Year 3 went for a tour around Gateshead and Newcastle quayside to find out a little bit more about the Great Fire of Gateshead and Newcastle. The tour started off at St Mary’s Heritage Centre and swiftly moved onto where Mr Wilson’s Wool factory used to be in 1854. Year 3 were then taken to the Newcastle quayside to see how far the fire travelled. Bessie Surtee’s house was the next place year 3 visited to see what the houses were like during the Victorian era. Year 3 found out that the houses were made of wood and very close to each other. This was the reason why the houses caught alight so quickly. Year 3 thoroughly
enjoyed the tour.
