This week has been WW1 week in school and what a week it has been! In Year 6 we have been involved in many activities such as: a talk on war memorials in our local area by Dorothy Hall;an assembly led by the DLI museum;a whole school assembly led by ‘That History Bloke’ in which we learnt about the reasons why young men signed up for the war and the role of women left behind and a trip to Gateshead Library; where we researched local men involved in The First World War using census records and archives.

To bring the week to a close we took part in a whole school assembly led by our ‘Leading Lights’ and placed a wreath pf poppies in our school memorial garden. We wrote a class prayer of remembrance to honour the fallen soldiers.

The final event was a Declaration of peace party which we held in the classroom to celebrate the end of the war.
