As part of number day in year 4, we completed a problem solving question to be entered into a competition against other schools in the Kingsmeadow cluster of schools. We used concrete maths methods in manipulating counters to find a solution to the problem ‘Ram divided 15 pennies among 4 small bags. He could then pay money from 1p to 15p without opening any bags.’
Following on from this activity we were challenged to make a cube out of spaghetti and marshmallows. It was great fun and hard to balance!
