This week St Aidan’s once again remembered a disastrous local event that happened 103 years ago on 5th February 1916 – the Bensham Tram Smash. Yesterday Miss Sutcliffe delivered an assembly reminding us of the sad story where four people lost their lives when a tram lost control and toppled over at the bottom of Bensham Bank. We discussed how St Aidan’s has remembered the Bensham Tram Smash in the past and why it is important to remember our local history. Then each class visited the Remembrance Garden and Chapel to reflect on the disaster, pray for the people that lost their lives and for people affected by disasters today.
